When you arrive on Catalina Island, you might be intrigued by its hilly landscape, its colorful collection of buildings, or all the boats bobbing around in the harbor. There’s so much to see right in the city of Avalon. This town occupies just a small portion of the whole island, and beyond it, there are canyons, hills, and trails galore to explore. But you can’t simply get to all these beautiful places by foot, on a bike, or with a golf cart. That’s where Catalina Taxi and Tours comes in; taking a Catalina Jeep Tour is the best way to see much more of the beauty that the island has to offer. Read on to learn the answers to 9 FAQs about a Catalina Jeep Tour:
.) How can I make a reservation? It is easy to book tours online, by phone, or in person. Reservations are recommended for jeep tours during the summer season, which can be especially busy. The booking site for Catalina Taxi and Tours is available to book tours in advance. For availability, call 310-510-0342. For groups of 6 or more, be sure to make a reservation, as larger groups will need to use more than one vehicle per tour. These private tours run daily beginning at 9:30 a.m. If you don’t see the tour time that you’re looking for, you can submit a request for your preferred tour time and date, and we can aim to accommodate you.
.) Where do we meet? We do provide the option to pick you up at a location of your choice when you make your reservation. This service comes at no extra cost for pickup destinations in Avalon. Any locations outside of Avalon will be charged an additional fee.
.) What do I bring? It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothes and shoes and pack a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. In addition, a light sweater or jacket might be necessary for cooler weather. Tour-goers are also welcome to bring any snacks and drinks along on the tour. While gratuity is not required, if you choose to tip your driver, perhaps you’ll want to bring cash for a tip.
.) What will we see? Our open-air Jeeps offer 360-degree views of all the nature, scenery, and beauty around Catalina Island. It’s possible that you’ll see some of Catalina’s wildlife such as the wily Catalina Island fox or some free-roaming bison. Tours can also take you to the Airport in the Sky, the Nature Center, and the Summit overlook. Some other sites might include: Rancho Escondido, the historic Eagle’s Nest Lodge, views of Shark Harbor or Little Harbor, and even a visit to Two Harbors on the island’s West End.
.) Are there restrooms available? Yes! While we always recommend using a restroom prior to a tour, there will be a couple of chances to use a restroom while on tour. The main stop will be at the Airport in the Sky, which has restrooms as well as a snack bar and gift shop.
.) How long will the tour be? Catalina Taxi and Tours offer a few different tour lengths. You can choose from a 1.5-hour tour, a 2.5-hour tour, or a 3.5-hour tour. You also have the option to plan a custom tour by calling our office in advance.
.) Who gives the tour? We are proud to send tours out with a knowledgeable and friendly tour driver for your trip. Spanish speaking tour guides are available upon request. Your guide will share some fun facts about Catalina, island history, and details about what makes the island so special.
.) Are there any safety concerns for the tour? It’s important to know that most of the roads that we travel on for these tours are unpaved, and therefore quite bumpy! That said, passengers who have high blood pressure, heart health issues, back or neck pain, motion sickness, or other conditions that might be aggravated by a rough ride might want to sit this one out. For overall safety reasons, passengers should be able to walk. For children traveling on the tour, consider whether they will need a booster or car seat. If so, you can reserve a safety seat rental for $10.00 when you book your tour.
.) What about refunds, changes, or cancellations? Tour times may be changed or cancelled by Catalina Taxi and Tours due to unforeseen circumstances. If a tour gets cancelled, a full refund will be given within 48 hours of cancellation from the original departure time. If a tour is postponed to a time less than one hour from the original departure time, no refunds will be given. If a tour is postponed more than one hour from the original departure time, full refunds will be given upon request within 48 hours of the original departure time. No refunds will be given for cancellations that occur 48 hours or less than 48 hours in advance.
