5 Things to Pack for a Trip to Catalina Island’s interior

For the overwhelming majority of visitors, a trip to Catalina means a trip to Avalon, the island’s only city. This charming seaside village, with its Mediterranean ambiance, prevalent restaurants and quaint shops offers a unique destination for fun and entertainment. Just beyond the city, however, is a vast wonderland of protected natural habitats and awe-inspiring scenery.

No Trip to Catalina is complete without a visit to the interior

There are several ways to explore this wilderness and one of the best is via private tour. Here’s what you need to bring with you on your private tour of Catalina.

Camera. As cellphones have evolved, the need for a separate camera has diminished dramatically and most cellphones will be able to capture the island’s stunning landscapes. If, on the other hand, you still prefer to shoot photos with a standalone camera, you will definitely want to bring it. A trip to Catalina Island’s interior will reveal breath-taking seascapes, spectacular vistas and unique wildlife. Whether it’s for posting to social media or a creating a poster for your wall, you’ll find snap-worthy scenes every where you look.

Dress for the weather. Layers are always a good idea on the island and a trip to the interior is no exception. A light sweatshirt or jacket will be appreciated on all but the warmest days. Ocean breezes on the windward side of the island can be a bit chilly and once the sun goes down, so does the temperature.

Friends and family. While Catalina Island – including the protected interior -- is an ideal destination for solo travelers, there’s a good chance that you will want to share this experience with those that matter in your life, whether that’s a significant other, your kids, your spouse or your best friends.

Shoes for the terrain. If you are planning on hiking or exploring, the right shoes will help you stay safe and comfortable. While hiking boots aren’t necessary if you aren’t going to be doing the more challenging trails, the interior of the island is not the right environment to try out your new stiletto sandals.

Your sense of adventure. On the mainland it’s easy to let the stresses of everyday life overshadow life’s wonders. A trip to Catalina Island’s interior can be just what you need to remind you of the beauty and awe all around you.
